"Helping Hand" is a twenty-five year old free counselling service. A non-profit society manned entirely by qualified and lay volunteers, we provide emotional support and guidance to persons with any form of family issues, distress or interpersonal needs. People can come in person without any appointment, call over the phone or write to us. Everyone is given individual, confidential and free attention, and is empowered to take the right decisions to overcome or cope with the situation. The counselling is non-religious, non-political, unbiased and in strictest confidence.

We have a force of over 250 volunteers manning the helpdesks in the emergency and outpatient departments of 10 major hospitals of the city. Our volunteers give emotional support, empathy and any other personal assistance required by patients and their caretakers. The hospitals where our volunteers are present every day include the largest public hospitals like Victoria & Bowring, Kidwai Hospital of Cancer, NIMHANS, M.S.Ramiah, St John's, Baptist, Mallya, Manipal etc. Some volunteers spend time with the under-served children in various institutions and schools.

Regular free training is provided to volunteers (and also to others who are interested) by lectures on important topics of human behavior, on the first Friday and third Thursday of every month, as follows: First Friday of the month, 5 p.m. at Indian Institute of World Culture, B P Wadia Road, Basavanagudi.
