Diploma in Personal Counselling Skills-2011 Valedictory Report

valedictory report

14 April, 2011 was a special day at Banjara RV Road Center. At 3.00pm the class room was full of well-dressed ladies and gentlemen, chattering to their height as if there will not be any other day. It was the last formal gathering for them. “The Valedictory Day for DPCS11 batch students”. The feeling was mixed as Gur and Neem of Ugadi. The glowing faces were visible with the silence within being felt. The joy of reaching out to the world and the sorrow of letting go of association were giving confused manifestation of feelings.

DPCS-2011 Mentors and Students

As Deepak started the program with a Bhajan the students joined him. Raja took over to recall the journey of the nine months that we travelled together. He congratulated each and every student for the learning acquired and displayed during final presentation. He commended the maturity shown by the students during their counselling sessions in various aspects. Raja acknowledged the excellent coordination and execution of work done by the group leaders and deputy leaders of both the batches and a certificate of recognition was awarded to them as a token of appreciation. The participation of all the students in making a collage on “Reach out” was appreciated with a Five Star Cadbury Chocolate.

DPCS-2011 Noopura

The Cultural program of students as group song, solo play done by the students was well appreciated by all. This brought out the talents within. As a token of humble gesture students offered a Gurudakshina of Rs. 11,800/- to Banjara RV Road that could be used as deemed fit, by the institute. The farewell address by Noopura and “ My Transformation “ by Sachin echoed the group sentiments.

The handshake, hugging, patting and clicking of camera became the last touch of a formal let go. The closing Tea party had high energy level to match the excitement prevailing all round. The clicking of Camera and Mobiles were continuously working to capture the moments and the Valedictory session finally became history by 7.30pm.

Leading Banjara Academy's online email counselling team of volunteer-counsellors, I realize it is not an easy task reaching out to a person one has never met, never seen, without the added advantage of gestures, eye contact, a gentle reassuring touch, tone of voice and yet providing empathy, positive strokes, making the person feel heard and understood.

With the aid of only written words, it is quite a task building trust, making people open up and share and helping them cope and feel better. So when in many instances they write back saying thank you and that they feel so much better, the feeling one gets is priceless and incomparable - knowing one has done something right, something good!

Hats off to all the volunteeer-counsellors of Banjara Academy who have been carrying on this work silently, anonymously for the last couple of years. Truly commendable! - Ali Khwaja
