Career Guidance at Indian Institute of World Culture (IIWC)
Date: 3 May 2013
Venue: IIWC, Bangalore
Topic: Career Guidance
You have got to attract the brightest and the best, but the brightest and best won't stay unless they see real career options…..
Dr. Ali was addressing the parents and children who had gathered at the Indian Institute of World Culture on 3 May 2013. The hall flooded with students who were on the verge of taking suitable courses to pursue after their 12th Board exams.
Dr. Ali started by telling the audience to first understand and enjoy whatever skill they were good at, and then pursue that as career. The difference between a career and a job was clearly explained.
It is said that ‘the future you see is the future you get’. Having goals gives a sense of direction, improves confidence. It should not be selected because it offers the best "scope" or jobs. Listing out all possible careers and efforts to explore, search, look into all possibilities will help.
Dr. Ali also threw light on wide range of careers to choose starting from Engineering, medicines to life sciences. We should be ready to start at a lower level in the field of our choice. One can study or upgrade you later. But what is important is to be passionate about what you do. Queries from the audience ranged from the opportunities in the various sectors of the Indian civil services, Performing Arts and Sports, Courses in BITS Pilani and Indian Institute for Education and Research (IISER).
Dr. Ali winded up by insisting the youngsters that It's not what you achieve, it's what you overcome makes you an achiever. He also mentioned about the services offered by Banjara in Career Counselling!
