As I have mentioned earlier, I come from a background of corporate experience where I was doing people-related work (journalism, advertising, qualitative research all required understanding people, their contexts, mindsets, culture, etc.). So when I decided on making a shift to becoming a counsellor, I chose this particular program, and thankfully so.

This course became a window for me into a completely new world. The course material has been designed well, and throws substantial light into different aspects of counselling. The best part about it, that if taken seriously, it can lead you to learn about things one would never fathom one is capable of learning. I used the tenets here as a starting point for further exploration and that was wonderful. I especially loved the assignments as they were thought-provoking and practical. They drew from real, everyday experiences so it became easy to understand. Also, it helped me think in a certain way and scout for more and more perspective. Through the course of completing the exercises, I got to interact with a lot of unknown people to understand their lives and challenges, and that has added great perspective to my learnings. The course came across as a sincere effort to help students learn and explore, and serve the cause of helping people in need of psychological support. It warms my heart to see and experience such a thing amidst so many other options where education is a lot more commercial and of little value. It comes through in the way the course is conducted, and I’m sure it has positive effects on the other students as well just as it has had on me. I feel that to educate and train, apart from the course material, it is also the value of the discipline and the ethical aspect which is imperative to teach. And this course did just that for me. One of the suggestion that I have pertains the to the case studies. Once we submit out take on them and get a feedback, it would be really helpful if we are told how in reality was the case actually handled. Or what are the other ways it could have been handled. In great detail. This would be a great learning and in fact one of the ways to tackle the downsides of an impersonal medium for such a sensitive area of work. I felt this need acutely several times, and wished I could find out what exactly was done in this particular case. The online mode of learning was a first for me, but overall I felt quite comfortable given how much I was able to learn. The course also provided a lot of flexibility for me to work through it. Given that I have a small child it would have been next to impossible for me to complete this course had there been no flexibility. So thanks a bunch for that and so much more. I would also like to thank my mentor who gave me really prompt feedback at all times. In fact there is a lot of encouragement I got from her for all the work I did.
