Meet Some of Our Volunteers
She may appear as a sucessful professional or business woman, but she is a lady with a determination not to make money but to do something much more meaningful. After doing her counselling training, she has plunged headlong into voluntary work at various hospitals, and she has taken up the challenge of counselling a very difficult segment of people – those who are suffering from advanced cancer, and require palliative care. She organizes various events, meets and counsels patients and their care givers, and motivates many others to join in this noble task. She is a role model to others who wish to make their life a service for those who need emotional suport the most.
She has done her Diploma in Counselling Skills Course from Banjara Academy.

Gopal Rao K
Gopal Rao is retired after his meritorious service with the coffee board. He got inspired by a HH advertisement posted in General Post Office which made him think of serving people in need of his efforts as part of the HH team. That led him to join our Helping Hand.
During the times he is by himself, he enjoys reading Spiritual books of Swami Vivekananda, sinking into Lata Mangeshkar’s songs, his favourite singer and catches up on current affairs with newspapers.
He loves savouring sweets and one could spot him wearing light shades of dress that he likes to turn up with always.
“Work sincerely with loads of patience” is his message for new HH volunteers!

Jain V. K.
He retired many years ago as a senior banker. Having proven himself professionally and having settled his children, he could have rested on his laurels and enjoyed his pensioner life. But he chose to commit himself completely to the service of people who are suffering not only due to physical ailments, but also loneliness, isolation, anxiety of the future. He spends almost all his weekdays in the giant Manipal Hospital, moving from the X-Ray unit to ICU to various outpatient areas, always with a smile, a suggestion to speed up the process, some guidance about hospital procedures, etc. Age is not a deterrent for this committed young gentleman who has made it a mission to reach out to as many patients as possible, and is in fact in demand by some of the doctors and professionals to give emotional support to patients.

Lakshmi believes that each of us can realise the purpose and achieve meaning in our lives and that empathy and truly listening to the other person are of greatest importance to this end. She likes reading, appreciates music, dance, poetry and other fine arts which she considers to be greatly therapeutic. She deeply regards her time at Banjara as most fulfilling and wishes to give off herself as much as possible.
