Wanted Education and Independence Programme Head for Baale Mane, Bengaluru.

The Baale Mane is a loving home for disadvantaged and abandoned girls which is located just outside of Bangalore. Our focus is on nurturing brighter futures for the girls to enable them to lead self-sustaining independent adult lives. We are seeking to add to our team with the recruitment of a Head of Education and the Independence Programme . We are looking for someone with an interest in girls’ rights and empowerment, who has a passion for education and development, can take initiative in their work and drive a programme forward.

Classification – Full time
Reports to – Board of Baale Mane Trust
Salary – Competitive NGO salary based on applicant’s level of experience.

We are looking for a responsible woman who is seeking grass-roots field experience working with the team at Baale Mane. Specifically, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing the existing educational strategy for all girls, and developing systems for monitoring their academic performance throughout their time at Baale Mane. She will work most closely with our young women, who are aged 18 – 25 years, living in the city, and attending colleges, vocational training programmes and internships. In addition, she will have responsibility for the pastoral care of these girls and will be expected to meet with them regularly and attend to any emergencies that may arise.

The Head will also be required to work closely with our External Relations Manager who has overall responsibility for the development of our care planning and life skills programmes, as well as sourcing external placements and internships. She will be expected to lead life skills sessions, to support the young women by monitoring attendance and performance at college and in work, and to support their emotional and physical well-being.

The candidate will also be expected to work closely with the Baale Mane Manager and the Trustees. She will be in charge of managing accounts, dealing with personal and private information, documentation, report writing and decision making

Ideally, the applicant will be:
  • Passionate about child rights, especially issues such as girls and women’s empowerment and education
  • Able to travel independently to the office, based in Malleshwaram, within the city and to the home at Baale Mane on a frequent and regular basis.
  • Fluent in Kannada and English.
Ideally, the applicant will have:
  • 3+ years’ experience in programme coordination and facilitation and/or working directly with young people from difficult backgrounds
  • The ability to guide and mentor young women
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as a good level of numeracy and IT proficiency
  • The ability to take initiative in their work and make strong decisions
  • Experience in delivering life skills sessions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to network and form relationships with schools and colleges, companies, organisations and other NGOs
